Apps Help getting setup

Hi,

I am a newbie looking to get started developing on day #1. My development machine is Windows XP Pro version 2002 Service Pack 3. I cannot seem to find the right Java product of Java. Can someone help me and send the appropriate link if possible? Also, I downloaded the starter SDK, what else would I need to get started?
