HELP! Google play registering Galaxy s2 multiple times but it is same device

Hi all, this is my first post on such forums, I generally do as much research online as I can but I have found nothing to assist me. Basically I have had the same Galaxy s2 as I always have and registered with Google play December 2011 but have recently encountered problems with it after it froze completely 'bricked'.

Following repair it was back to stock factory settings and I had to input my account details when signing back into google play store etc yet it registered the phone as a new device when looking at my account settings on Google play.

I did a factory data reset this week following update to 4.0.4 and went through the process of setting up the phone again and checked existing account and input my gmail account yet I have again noticed that the phone has registered as a further new device on Google play, I really don't understand why it hasn't remained the same device as the one I initially set up in December 2011 or even the new device following repair in January 2013, I now have 3 accounts for the same phone but they are marked as new devices!!!

Can anybody please assist?!

That's actually normal after a reset. Not sure how google detects the devices, but if you go into the "my devices" page, you can hide the old ones. Then they at least won't be in your way.

Ah right, didn't realise that, it actually makes things difficult in terms of re-downloading the apps that were previously purchased as according to Google play they are linked to a different device together with the apps settings and data, as an example, I downloaded Angry Birds again and none of the levels I had previously completed were noted, the game was in essence never played and a new download
