How do I disable the swipe screen lock in a Galaxy S6? Please don't say "clear credentials," as that is the only option that's not available (gray font).

Does this work? (from bell canada)

  1. Touch Apps. You can remove any screen locks that you've set up on your Samsung Galaxy S6. ...
  2. Touch Settings. ...
  3. Scroll to and touch Lock screen and security. ...
  4. Touch Screen lock type. ...
  5. Enter your password. ...
  6. Touch NEXT. ...
  7. Touch None. ...
  8. The screen lock has been turned off.

Nope. In Screen Lock And Security, I only have the option to confirm the direction of the swipes.

Hi

Thats odd! Surely you get an option to change the type of screen lock (to pattern, password etc). Normally there is a none option at the bottom of that list.

I remember that on my S4, if you had settings applied to automatically lock the screen with PIN after screen timeout, then you automatically had a swipe to unlock every time you had a PIN entry. I didn't want to get rid of PIN protection, but it seemed ridiculous to have to do both (PIN and swipe). With root, I mimicked screen lock / PIN function based on time delay after screen-off using Tasker and was able to keep PIN protection without having any swipe screen.

To the first two replies: No, no, and no. To the last one, I don't know what that means. What is Tasker?

What is the exact model number of your phone? Maybe some are different to others in this function.

I think on Samsung phones that Swipe to unlock is the default until you set up a pin or pattern lock.

Nope. I can remove it on my S7. However, if you have a PIN and has lockscreen notifications, then it appears. The S6 has a fingerprint scanner anyway. Just fingerprint away.

Hi

I just checked the Sprint user manual for your phone, it says exactly what I said in post #2 (on page 356 etc). Maybe it changed - has your system been updated since you got it?

If I try to set "none" on my note4 with 6.0.1, it asks me to clear credential storage. If you find that greyed out you are probably running something that prevents you from removing them, such as banking apps, VPN connections etc. These things do not allow you to have no lock screen, although they don't normally allow a simple swipe to unlock either.

Yes, the system has been updated, and yes, I'm running a banking app. However, I had no screen lock at all until I swiped one (don't ask, I plead insanity).

Hi

Insanity plea accepted - we are all there - more or less.. Maybe chanchan05's plan is best and just set a fingerprint unlock which should be quite easy to do when you pick the phone up.
