I have been trying to use this process to acquire the unlock code and I have repeated it with no success. I get 2 different responses when trying to run the unlock.bat. The errors come right after the screen reads "Acquiring Network Unlock Codes...". 1. error: device not found. 2. error: device offline. Yes my USB is in development mode when doing this. Also my phone usually locks up and or shuts down when I try this. My phone is already rooted. Any suggestions?

As you have undoubtedly discovered by now, you need to unlock the phone to use anything other than an AT&T SIM. Try these instructions: [ HowTo ] Samsung Infuse 4g Free Unlock and Root on all O/S's - xda-developers
(ignore the permanent root part unless you also want that)
By root are you refering to the root directory? If so, are you talking about a locked phone, screen, or both? I assume the phone or how can you put debug on if the screen is locked? I have a locked screen and don't want to loose my data. Can I do it thru gmail or any other way?

I think you have misunderstood the topic of this thread (or I have misunderstood you). To unlock a phone means to remove the carrier-imposed restriction that "locks" you into only registering it on their system (e.g., AT&T). Root or "rooting" refers to removing the default restrictions inhibiting full file system access. Your last question refers to a screen lock, which is part of the launcher, and unrelated to anything being discussed here. I Think your best bet is to start a new thread and ask your question.
