Help htc android eries pattern locked out

I need help and I need it fast, my daughter has locked herself out of her phone via the pattern lock. We have tried for hours and nothing we do is working. The gmail account info is put in and all it says its checking for hours. SHe wants the messages on the phone so a hard reset isn't an option. Anyone please help!

Have you tried simply turning off, then on again and entering the google info again?

We've seen this before and here's the thing ... when you lock out due to too many failed pattern lock attempts, you need to be able to authenticate the account through Google's servers which means a data connection, either 3G or Wifi must be active. If both were turned off, I am not sure if there is a way to turn them back on when the screen is locked.

I have also seen credentials being rejected because, depending on your default keyboard, it may be trying to auto-capitalize the password. That's less common, though.
