Root Help I can't install RSD Lite

When I try and install rsd lite 5.5 it get almost all the way installed and then says

"the feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'RSDLite' disk and click OK"

I do have rsd lite 4.6 installed will that work?

I also get the same thing when trying to install the drivers

"the feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Motorola Driver Installation 4.2.0' disk and click OK"

I have 4.2.0 installed from rooting me og droid but it does nothing I can't even uninstall it.

I am using windows 7 32 bit version.

Any help would be appreciated because I want to root my phone. I don't want to start with out having everything set up to fix it first.

Thanks, I tried this and the drivers installed right away but rsdlite 5.5 still is asking for the rsdlite disk. If I click ok it said the path "cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'RSDLite_4.6.msi' in a floder from which you can install the product RSDLite."

I didn't at first but then I did. The weird thing is that it wasn't in the add and remove programs section. I had to just delete the folder. I read that the msi reference in the registry could be messed up. I am going to see about removing that now and see if that fixes it.

It has some thing to do with the previous version installed, it will not uninstall because it is missing the installation package. So the 5.5 will not install. Does anybody know if moto has a program to completely remove their software like the antivirus manufactures do?

OK, two choices.

1) Uses Recuva / Pandora to recover the directory that you deleted, or

2) Get RegEditX and use it to find the related keys in the registry that pertain to RSDLite.

Oh, and have you tried installing the old version you had installed before? FWIW - don't go deleting directories when troubleshooting - next time just rename the directory so this kind of thing does not happen.

Pick which one you want to try and let me know....

I saved the directory to an external drive and was able to put it back. I am going to try the registry and see what happens. I downloaded rsdlite to my wife computer so I can root while I figure out what is going on here.
Thanks for all your help.

No worries - if you're going to check out the registry method I highly recommend you checking out DCSoft's RegEditX. David has come a long way with integrating it into the system a a much better RegEdit app, and he also incorporated the previously shareware Registry Crawler - arguably the fastest registry search tool on the planet, even today.

The current beta expires at the end of the year, and thus is 100% totally free. http://www.dcsoft.com/products/regeditx/
