Hi all,

would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction, thank you. I have been searching for an answer to my (non functional GPS) and have now registered on your site. Apparently from what I understand, I have to select my phone from your list in order to start a new thread and fully explain my problem. Unfortunately, my phone is not listed anywhere, so where do I start my thread?!?

And yes, I have done some extensive searching on your forum (and Google in general) however so far all answers have been somewhat vague and inconclusive with regard to my particular GPS issue.

your help would be appreciated, thank you.

ok..

so....

what PHONE do you have??

who is the carrier??

and why is the GPS not working??

what did you do ... right before it stopped working??
what changes did you make...??

If you do not see your phone on the list of subforums, there is the "Other Phones (Android and Non-Android)" forum. Please post your questions there.

So what are the details? What's the GPS issue? Have you tried downloading an app like GPS Status to see if its GPS reset resolves your issue or to see what's going on with your GPS receiver? Or is it a problem with a GPS app?

Hi there,

thanks for the prompt responses. I will start a new thread over in the "generic" area, however to answer a few questions:

1) the Phone is a CECT manufactured Model (number CVRO-M114) I am lead to believe. Phone name is Prodigy, with capacitive touch screen. A Chinese phone that, aside from a few minor quirks, I am very pleased with. IMEI # 352302029974718.
2) Everything works on the phone. I only recently purchased it, and this is my first experience with Android (which thus far, I am enjoying very much thank you). I have had Bluetooth, WiFi and cellular networking working perfectly, and they continue to do so. Have recently used overseas as well without a hitch.
3) Carrier is 2 Degrees (New Zealand company). Very good, and they include a page on their website for setting various settings for internet/data access via cellular network. Have not been able to do this yet either, as the phone/IMEI number mentioned above is not recognised by their website, and I do not know how to manually change the required settings under Android. I have been through all the settings I can find. Probably another thread...so I will focus on the first issue at hand right now, IE GPS!

GPS has never worked! I have figured out how to turn the receiver on and off, and have also downloaded an app that essentially puts the enable/disable control in the taskbar at the top of the screen. When turned on, a satallite dish appears in the corner, with 3 green lines (or concave waves) emanating from it. However this is all it does. The phone came with GPS Status 2 (BETA) and, although the app starts up, no GPS data appears on the screen, and the compass remains immovable. The only change is the accelerometer value, as you rapidly move the phone about. Have tried downloading another version of GPS Status, but same result. Google maps is also unable to use GPS

Note a friend of mine can stand next to me with his phone accessing and using GPS, so GPS coverage is not an issue. Have also tried moving around, standing outdoors, driving in car, etc. etc. Have tried removing the battery, waiting 10 minutes and replacing/restarting phone. Also no good. Somebody in this thread mentioned that you can use GPS Status to reset the GPS module. How? I have been through the menu-settings list and there are only a handful of rudimentary options, none of which effect any GPS settings or offer a restart option. Is there still a piece to the Android puzzle that I am missing?
