Help I'm new and don't understand

I was going thru my phone and looking at my mobile app data and the first one on the list that dressed every single last ounce of my data says... Name of app:10382 then when it shows how much data it's using (which it showed all of it) usually it says 2.4mg or whatever it instead said restricted. Can anyone tell me what app this is??

Hi @Brooke Bennett, first of all welcome to Android Forums, there will be plenty of people to help you :).

It does help if you can tell us what device you have.

On my device that info is in Settings - Network & Internet (WiFi,Mobile, data usage, and hotspot), which if I tap on it gives another menu WiFi, Mobile network etc., tapping on each of those gives me the data usage.

"Restricted" usually means that an app can't use data in the background. It's odd too see it in that list.

Have you uninstalled any apps recently? When you remove an app the Settings will record data that it has used but can't show the name of the app that has used them, which can produce odd things like apps with numbers rather than names and only the generic icon. If it disappears next month and is never seen again that will probably be the explanation.

It's ok, wouldn't expect you to :).

That does seem to be a lot of mobile data.
Have you checked your WiFi data usage?
Do you keep your mobile data on?
Is that mobile data usage within your data allowance?

I'm so much concerned about it using my data..I am more curious what app it is?? And why it says restricted? Could it be a spy app? Also when I go to the wifi it doesn't show up there??

The green bar under it is the amount of data... It's all the way pegged compared to the apps below it. Those give how many bytes they are using also. Assuming how the complied data is portrayed,I honestly just assumed that was pulling the most data my.. Still came figure out which one.. Motorola has poor customer service, lesson learned lol

Ok I see what you are saying now and yes I guess it's not using any data.. where do you see my hot spot data?? And still curious as to what app 10382 is?? I might've disabled something I shouldn't have on my phone? Also is there any way to see if maybe there is some kind of spy ware on your phone?? My phone has been doing weird things... Thank you all so far for all the help.!!

its right below the 10382 under mobile hotspot and tethering at 2.78gb

i think everything might get resolved if you perform a factory reset. just make sure to back everything up, including your sd card(if you have one).

what phone do you have? if it is a samsung phone, then you can use smart switch to backup your data.

App 10382 may well be something you uninstalled. It wouldn't have been called that, but the data accounting doesn't retain the names of uninstalled apps (I've said this already).

Hi, Brooke.

I'm a user that tends to go after root-level privileges, but I can tell you this:

If you go to F-Droid, you can find apps that are VERY data friendly compared to what you would get at G-Play; there's an app there called SuperFreezZ. It is designed to "hibernate," or freeze apps so that data transmissions get slowed down & reduced a bit. Download the F-Droid kDi first (after you create an account), then look through the apps that they have (i.e., they have a great calendar app called Etar; it also uses less data & memory).

Another location to check out is XDA Developers. They have many good apps, and development to help you protect your privacy AND reduce data consumption from background-running apps... but F-Droid is where you should begin.

Good luck, Brooke -
