Help help in selecting - Backup App contenders

After reading a post in this forum, and http://www.androidauthority.com/best-android-backup-apps-and-other-ways-too-608014/ I am considering the following 3, in order to backup/restore my Samsung galaxy. I need to be able to
  1. Save all my apps/settings-of-apps/system-settings/data(photos,SMS,whatsapp etc). In case i have problem with phone, and had to do a factory reset, i want to be able to come back to my current state instantly with a restore.
  2. In case i upgrade (from current galaxy S4 to a higher hardware from Samsung), it would be nice to simply transfer all data into the new phone. This implies that i should be able to select ONLY some of apps+data, and NOT the entire set of apps+data, since i don't want apps creeping into the new phone without my knowledge. A facility to move to new hardware, in a flexible manner would be of great help, since i will be upgrading within a year.
The 3 contenders that i hear most about in my reading are below:
  1. Samsung kies
  2. Helium (since i am non-rooted, and want something that is geared to non-rooted users).
  3. Nova Launcher Prime (I hear this has facility to move to backup/restore into new hardware).
Please help me choose one of these. I like software that gives me great flexibility, but at the same time, if i am not in a mood, i should be able to go with "automatically do the best it can". I also like something that is tested and tried, so i do not wind up with crap when it is time to do the real restoration in an emergency.

  1. Will Samsung Smart Switch transfer data+settings stored in apps like EverNote and "CineMark Theaters" into my new device ? I am double checking because, according to the article at https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-transfer-everything-on-to-your-new-phone#Apps "To transfer the app data from one Android to another, you'll need additional backup apps like Titanium or Helium. Only then do you once again have the settings, stored accounts, game stats and so on, and the apps are immediately ready for use."
  2. Will "Nova Launcher Prime" do a "whole backup of all apps" so that they all work instantly in a new phone upgrade ? I remember a mention of this somewhere on the net, but don't recollect now. Someone who has done this before could be lurking in these forums.
