Help Help in updating my HTC

Guys I have read about doing factory reset before and after installing lollipop update.. But if I do that it will also remove all my apps, also should I take out my ad card before I do the factory reset. My phone is HTC desire.. Thanks for the help guys..
 
You only have to reset after the update.
Yeah it will remove all apps (everything) but if you have "backup my data" checked in Backup and Reset settings, you should be given an option to download all your apps automatically after the reset when you log into the phone at the setup wizard.
Most phones won't touch the sd card with a factory reset but you could keep it out just in case
