HELP!! is it bricked?

hi
i got a sony experia x10 off ebay, it was locked to t mobile, i got unlock soft where from phone fun shop. had a nightmare with that, so took it to a shop, got it un locked but now i get

"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
also, sim doesent contain any contacts

i have tryed

getting a new sim from 3
calling 3 to see if IMIE is black listed
repairing with pc companion,
unlocking/ relocking boot loader
setting APNs manually, they just dissapere when i hit save

could there be a problem with sim slot , or is it hard locked now due to a dodgy unlock?

if any one can help i will be verry gratefull!

thanks
i tryed switching radio on and off, and airplane mode,
im trying to connect to 3
i found apn settings for 3, but cant cet them to save!

"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"

^This tells me it's not SIM unlocked. You could have ROOTED the phone, but it is completely different from SIM unlocking a phone. You can buy a code, or try calling Sony to get one, to allow it to be used on any network. I can't find a community built solution. Many phones I've used have free options, but Sony isn't supported well by developers.

Sounds like it's still SIM-locked. Did the shop actually perform the unlocking correctly, and did they confirm that the phone worked correctly a non-T-mobile SIM? e.g. 3, Vodafone, O2, Orange, China Mobile, AT&T or whatever.

also, sim doesent contain any contacts

Android doesn't normally store contacts on a SIM. In fact by default, Android doesn't support SIM contact storage at all. The idea is that you sync your contacts with Google. SIM storage is a very legacy thing anyway. A relic from the days when phones only did phone calls, SMSs and Snake. There's just not enough storage on a SIM, to store all the contact info anyway, like contact photos, email addresses, multiple phone numbers, street addresses, custom fields, etc. SIMs probably only have 32k storage.

If the phone is still SIM-locked, non of that will work. Suggest you go back to the shop that was supposed to have unlocked it, see what they got to say about it. Get them to prove that it's unlocked correctly.

hi thanks for all sugestions
yeah i know sim contact storage is out dated but its an easy way to transfer numbers, so when i try copy contacts from sim to phone it says no contacts on sim,

i tryed it with a t mobile sim (origanal network lock) and it still says "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"

i think it may have been rooted before trying to unlock, would that cause a major sim lock issue like this?

No. You're missing the point. Your phone isn't SIM unlocked. Whatever the shop claimed to do didn't work. I would take it back to them and ask they why. Since we don't know what they did, we can't give you exact answers. I would go to the source of the problem.

damm it, i got it done by a china man in Dublin when i was passing, so there was a bit of a language barrier, he said it was unlock, but problem with sim, will be tricky takeing it back as i am in uk

would getting in touch with sony help? is that even an option
so i think we are basically looking at it not being unlocked properley, am i throwing money away trying to fix it? is it totaly useless or would a proper unlock code fix it now

My assumption (without having been there) is that the guy didn't unlock the phone correctly. Nothing is broken, but nothing has been done either. There are a TON of companies which offer unlocking for a fee. I would Google it and see what stores are in your area which offer it. If there are none you trust, plenty of sites offer unlock codes for Sony phones.

I doubt it's a brick issue or unlocked issue too... i am facing the same issue with my company unlocked nexus 4 which i know for sure is unlocked but getting the same message "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" when i contacted my network operator they said it's due to the fact that my sim card is 32K and reisusuing a new micro sim with 64K would solve it.. i have just put in my new sim .. will update you if this works

When I've used a shop to unlock a phone, they ALWAYS show me the phone with one or two different sim cards (e.g. Vodaphone & O2) recognized BEFORE asking for any money. That's just what reputable shops do.
