Root Help! Loading CM9 ROM/Kernel

Actually if he would have read the instructions it says right there download the fi03 sprint file it is a auto odin file with everything in it
it also explains how to get into download mode

but as he already has a recovery i told him to make sure those are safe to use since the s2 phones have this nasty emmc bug that can brick it

all he has to do is fire up his recovery and flash cm9 and gapps

oh and don t forget to wipe cache and data (cm does not play nice with leftovers from other roms)

since you already have a recovery just put the cm9 file on the sdcard and the gapps and flash it

download the autoroot file as explained in my lil tut and do exactly as explained and it will put on a safe recovery

You do realize there is like 20 million links with 4 digits, I'm too much of a noob to comprehend this: EG30, FB15, FB17 etc.






This guide is for directly rooting EG30/EG31/EK02 (NOT EL13/newer) Android for the Samsung E4GT using a 100% automated script.

If you want a Rooted EL13/newer+CWM use the appropriate pre-rooted ODIN thread [EL13/EL26/EL29],
then come back here and use Option C to install EL13/newer+CWM (NOTE: a GB kernel/zImage will NOT allow an ICS ROM to boot)

If you want a Rooted FB15/newer+CWM use the appropriate pre-rooted ODIN thread
[FB15/FB17/FB21/FB27/FC05/FC06/FC07/FC13/FC14/FC15/FC18/FC22/FC24]
[FD02/FD05/FD10/FD16/FD19/FD24/FD26/FE07/FE10/FE14/FE16/FE21/FE22]

then come back here and use Option D to install FB15/newer+CWM (NOTE: an ICS kernel/zImage will NOT allow a GB ROM to boot)

This root method uses your EXISTING kernel/initramfs/recovery/rom, so it shouldn't suffer from LOS (unless you had LOS with stock to start with)

Nothing is flashed, so you just get your existing setup with the addition of ROOT.
This will NOT trigger the Yellow Triangle nor will it increase your ODIN flash count.

If you are on Mac or Linux see Reference Section B
If you want CWM see Reference Section C (to install an official OTA update, reinstall the non-CWM version PRIOR to accepting)

Also, dumb question here. The zip files that contain the CM9, does it include a kernel for it in the zip?

Basically what I am asking is if the kernel is located inside the zip with the ROM?

cm9 comes with everything it will even put on a new recovery
after you install cm9 you have to install gapps to get the market

So basically I would be swapping CWM out for ODIN? Because ODIN basically puts all the files of a ROM together and installs it as one? Instead of dragging ROMs and Gapps to the SD card?

forget odin

just flash the cm9 zip and the gapps zip and you be fine
