Help Help! Lost Control.

Hi, my husband recently lost control of his Galaxy Note 5 after receiving the Nougat update. He's lost almost all his media, the phone keeps restarting in the middle of calls or tasks, can't access 90% of apps, home key brings up the camera which is actually just a black screen, the power button hardly works, and every time the phone reboots it is coming up with more storage space so something else is being deleted but we don't know what. Does anyone know how to fix it without having to do a factory reset? I'm guessing all the photos and videos are lost unless he backed them up?

I hope he backed up all the data as well. As to the problem with your note 5, I think that update of Nougat is not installed properly. You must take the phone to customer care and ask them to fix the issue.

You could try booting into recovery and clearing the system cache. Many times with a major update some of the old stuff still hanging around can interfere.

If wiping the system cache doesn't help, a factory reset really is the best way to fix this. As for recovering media, an update shouldn't delete anything, but sometimes default locations are changed and apps can't find the old stuff. If the device can stay running, you might be able to find the media files with a file manager like X-plore.
