Sim unlock? You need to buy an unlock code.
Bootloader unlock? You don't need to worry about that because custom roms and recoveries should already be patched to bypass the bootloader lock.

Actually I read on the metropcs web site that they will give you the unlock code for any phone that you have had unlocked for 90 days. Try that before you pay for an unlock code.
Edit: I accidentally typed unlocked instead of activated. If the phone has been activated for at least 90 days they should give you the code to sim unlock it for free.
