Help needed asap

I've linked my Hero to the computer but now when I click the "safely remove hardware" thing by the clock it wont let me stop the USB. It says
Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage device
The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device later.

Now what? Can I just unplug the phone or will it damage anything? I really need to go out soon and need the phone with me.
All I've done is added an mp3 file so not touched anything important.
It's been doing this for about 15 mins now.

If you're really worried about damaging the phone, turn off the computer and then unhook it, just like you would for any USB device.

Yep, having said that the amount of times I accidentally pulled out my phone mid-file transfer by catching it with my foot!

Cheers folks. I turned it off and unplugged with fingers crossed.
I was worried as never had a good fone before and out computer hates me.
Last time it did this it wiped everything off the TomTom.
Seems to be ok though. Thanks again.

Is it because you still have the phone mounted? If so unmount then try to 'safely remove hardware'
