Help Help Needed: Phone not reading SIM card

It's Wednesday and I can't take my phone into a shop until the weekend so I'm hoping someone here can help.

Completely out of the blue today my phone has starting saying there is no SIM card inserted. I have taken the card out, cleaned it and blown into the slot. After putting it back in the phone read it for about 10 mins but then said it wasn't inserted again. Now, doing exactly the same thing again it says there is nothing inserted as soon as I turn the phone back on.

Obviously really annoying so I'd like to get it fixed asap!

I read that someone said to use a piece of paper to move the sim closer to the pins.
