Help Help needed w/new Droid2

Lurker
I upgraded from the original Moto Droid to a Droid 2 today. I'm having a few issues that I can't figure out:

1. There is no "silent" option for notifications in the ringtone settings. My Droid had this. I don't want the phone to make any sound when email is received, but I do want sound for incoming text messages. How do I make that happen? As far as I can tell, the volume for incoming texts and emails are both considered "notifications" and so are set at the same volume, even though you can set different ringtones for each.

2. How do I remove the screen lock slider when the phone goes to sleep? I have set up an unlock pattern (with the dots), so I don't want the slider, I find it too hard to slide on the first try. My old Droid had this, but I think that the slide lock went away after I turned on the unlock pattern.

Any help with these would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

1. You can make these changes by going into the settings in each app. There are notification settings within Gmail, email, and messaging. By default, they use what you set for the whole phone, but you can change that.

Thanks, I figured that out after I posted my question. Also, I have found a lot of discussion online about my second question regarding the slide lock. It seems that many people have this issue since the Froyo update on the Droid 2, so I guess it is what we in the software industry like to call an "undocumented feature." I know that Motorola is aware of this, but I haven't found any confirmation that they will fix it in the next update.
