First off, let me apologise for signing up and asking straight away. I used to consider myself as know a decent amount about tech until I started scrolling through your forums here.
I just received my Samsung Galaxy S from T-Mobile in the uk. It shipped with Froyo. I've Googled and watched quite a few videos on youtube about rooting my phone and I think I'll be able to manage it using one of the many methods out there.
The trouble is, I really don't know what it actually does to your phone. I know it's supposed to make it run faster and allow you to tether, but froyo lets me do that anyway. I don't like the lag on the SGS, which is one of the reasons I'm looking to root.
Questions I have (and please don't be too harsh on me for not knowing, we all had to start somewhere
)
What pre-installed apps will I lose? I like quite a few that came with the phone, such as AllShare.
Will my contacts and files be removed?
Where can I find the apps I need to fix teh lag and be sure that they'll work with froyo?
Will this cause any problems with updating to newer versions of Android in the future?
Major apologies for the wall of text, but my knowledge with phones is quite basic and this is my first android device and I'd like to know as much about it as I can.
