Help Help - Network Selection

drphil

Newbie
Just got my Galaxy S3 on 3 Mobile (UK).

I now have the same network selection issue that I had on my last android (Portal). Network selection is stuck on automatic. I can go in and change it manually but it will just remain on automatic and change again when it sees fit.

The problem is that I live near the border with Ireland and drifting onto an Irish network will end up costing me money if I receive a call without realising I have roamed.

With the Portal, I flashed the firmware (with help from here) and that solved the problem. With the S3, I rooted the phone and added the Omega ROM but this has not helped. At the risk of sounding stupid, is rooting and changing the Rom not the same proces as flashing firmware? Why do I still have this problem?

I see a few people have asked this question before but unfortunately they got no answer! Hopefully I'll have more luck!

I've not had to mess about with roaming much but in the settings for 'mobile networks' do you have data roaming enabled (ticked)?

Only other thing in there that might be relevant is the network mode: mines t-mobile set to gsm/wcdma.

No idea if this might help.

Nope, roaming data is off. But I can still end up charged due to receiving calls when roaming.

Don't think the network mode is relevent, isn't that for telling the phone whether to use 3G or 2G networks? Although I suppose if I turn off 2G and kill data roaming that would do the trick indirectly?

Still would prefer a proper firmware solution. Going to try a stock firmware.

Firmware Update available now at least on T-mobile & O2 networks. Maybe this will help?
