I have had my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 for about a week and a half now. Sunday it was working fine. Monday i charged it fully and took it off the charger, didnt use it at all on tuesday and I get home from work today and go to use it and it wont turn on.

I finally got it to turn on by holding the power button down but then it goes into a screen where words are on the side and in red and white. The android guy comes up and it says "downloading do not turn off target" I thought it was an update or something so I let it be for about an hour and a half. still nothing.

What can I do to fix this problem?? Thanks in advance.

it might be because it wont turn on unless its plugged in.
Is the Tab in a case? If so it might be the case holding down the volume button which puts the Tab in recovery mode when you try to turn it on. The original Samsung Tab case did this to mine so I returned it and bought a simple gel TPU case which works great.

If that's not it, then try info from another post to get it to power up:

Try this:. Press and hold both power and volume down buttons for 5 seconds, then release vol. down button while holding down power button for another 5 seconds, before releasing. This should reset the tab, and it should boot normally.

As for turning it off/on it's not necessary. I leave mine on all the time so it's always ready to use. Standby time is great when setup properly so I don't need to turn it off. I charge it while sleeping too.
