Help.....Nexus 7 not very well

Can anyone help me at all? I got my Nexus 7 for Christmas in 2012. It has recently become very slow and unresponsive. So I factory reset it, rebooted and everything else I could think of. Despite all this it still doesn't work. The last time I used it I drained the battery. I've tried charging however that doesn't seem to work (it won't charge at all). So I tried rebooting it again and that won't work either. Can anyone suggest anything that I could do? Thanks

Will it charge when the tablet is off? Have you tried a different charger? cable?
