Help Help! No Group Text Messages

Hey Everyone. I am new to Android have just switched over from a Blackberry, and refuse to purchase an iphone (evil).

I purchased a Galaxy S3 Verizon and the group messaging feature is not working. I went back to the store and they could not figure out the root of the problem.

Say I start a group text. I want it to be reply all - as a big conversation. If anyone from the group text replies - it comes back as an individual text rather than to the entire group. Its driving me nuts.

I don't want to have to download any APP to perform a basic function.

Help.........

i was wondering the same thing. i found that if you long press the response, there should be a reply or reply to all option. i would like to know if there is a better answer to this though

I don't think the stock messaging app handles group conversations. I use GoSMS and there is a setting that enables it or you can download the verizon messaging app and it does it right "out of the box". Both apps are free.

Im surprised this isnt really freaking out a lot more people. I've owned the DX, Droid 2, Droid 4, Bionic and iphone and this is the first phone that isnt capable of group texts. You think it is because of the way the app presents itself however the app cant process the database correctly. If you install GoSMS you'll find that if you go into the native app after receiving a group text that it will display them "grouped". If you uninstall GoSMS the native app wont thread them properly anymore. Odd bug for sure. GoSMS is a way better choice than its competitors but it brings some annoyances to the playing field as well. Double notifications on group texts. Seems that its letting you know that you have a message from "Sue" and "Sue & Mary". If you open the app quickly youll notice that it quickly consolidates the messages once it figures out it should be grouped. I've tried replacing the SecMMS.apk with other versions but nothing really works the way it should. Shame for those of us that do a lot of group texting for business, it's a huge inconvenience.

I hate to be "that guy," but get Handcent or Go SMS. Both are far superior to the stock text app.

i know its silly, but i really like the motion that allows you to call from a text by just moving the phone to your ear. I drive a ton for work so it really makes it simpler to call someone back from the stock messaging app. i wonder if this is somthing that might be fixed in an update at some point?

I'm surprised this isn't a bigger issue as well. Do you know if download Go SMS but leave the native texting service as the primary does it still file these correclty in the native one? I've tried Go SMS and Handcent, even thought both have there perks, I love the layout and functionality of the native texting service: mainly the swipe left or right to call /text the contact. Plus I love the look and feel.

Is this verizon messaging app different than the native/stock? Or ist it just more of a batch for the native/stock messaging app? If that's the case, anyone know if AT&T has something like this?

from samsung's twitter acct:

Samsung Support ‏@SamsungSupport
@powdbyrice Sorry! There is no configurable option to do that on your device. You might be able to download a 3rd party app. Thanks!

I really wish there was some way to fix this as well. I have a couple groups I do group-messaging with and it drives me nuts that I get every message individually..it's a confusing mess. I had a Motorola Droid 3 before this and it handled everything great. I love my Galaxy SIII, this is the biggest downside to the whole device for me. Any chance they'll be fixing this in an update? It really seems Samsung should've had this function covered...

Like chet said, if you download the Go SMS Pro app and set it to allow group texts it looks like it will then allow group messaging in the stock app. You don't even need to use Go SMS Pro, it just has to be installed and set up correctly. Weird.

what a joke that a feature that has been around for years cannot be done in the stock messaging program. therefore, you need to download a 3rd party app. go sms is the one i use, and damn is it annoying (always trying to sell me stuff; sometimes it lags really bad if there are a lot of group message responses coming in, etc). if i had known this would be such a drawback i would have looked at another phone.
