pay no attention to that.....that is what we call adware. if you click on it, it will most likely send you the app store to download an antivirus app....which is really not needed. it most likely came from an app you recently installed.

edit: ninja'd!!!!!

Random popups are almost all very misleading.
If it was a matter where you were actually using some kind of anti-virus utility and a message like that showed up, that might be something to address.
But if it just showed up on its own, it's probably just an indicator you've got some kind of adware problem, not an actual virus.

Yeah, that is just a bullshit add trying to get you to install a bullshit app (bullshit at best, worst case will collect your data to sell).

Started yesterday: OK, so what apps have you installed or updated in the last week? Chances are it's one of them that's behind this. Though if you've been browsing unusual websites it's also possible that it's just come from one of them: clear your browser caches and see whether it helps. But turning WiFi off is unusual: might be worth checking which of your apps have the permission to do that.

I installed PdaNet n FoxFi...on two devices ...
But Ive been watching tv shows on cartoonhd.app site with note3 and it has lots of crap that pops up, I believe it installed something. It turns off wifi, and shows those same opoup pages without visiting the site or even opening up a browser. It opens the broswer on it's own. I have to x out of it.
I already went to chrome and turned off ads, remove those 126 or so companies...some sneaky shit!

What are some steps in removing, checking, might as well learn something here before wiping it clean. I did notice when following some directions that one part, I could go no further because the box was greyed out, can't remember! Appreciate any help before having to reset!
And I have another hard drive w/ Linux Deepin 64 bit installed, never installed android console on new os! What console you recommend for Samsung note 3, using Linux? Thanks

P.S. I transferred from old azz samsung galaxy to this old azz note3 few years ago and it did NOT transfer all info in contacts, so no want to lose all that again!...was all unorganized.

Welcome to Android Forums @MMei

I have a rooted Note 4 and have not notices that behavior while using Cartoon HD Version 3.0.3. Perhaps it has to do with the site you downloaded the apk from. As for PdaNet n FoxFi, I have never installed either of them.
There are some no root firewall apps that may help.

Phone not rooted but issues b4 the transfer to this phone and never really used it except for emergency phone and camera! So could be old apps etc...I just dont know what to remove and what not! Dont want to F&&k it up more.
Just need some guidance and most likely clean wipe...Is there different os systems that can be installed or just root?

Yes, I understand and just for the record if you don't know how to root you could permanently F-up your N3. Rooting is not for everyone and it will not solve the issues you mentioned in itself.
Usually a factory reset is the best course of action but its time consuming setting everthing up afterwards.
Did you provide you G-mail in the apps? Have you tried clearing app data, cache and unistalling the apps in question?

The culprit could that "cartoonhd app", when I went there, there was many nasty ads

Suggest you stop using it.

An ad through a browser could download an app but not install it unless you give a browser permission to install apps (which to me is obviously a bad idea). But if you are viewing stuff through an app then what permissions does that app have? It sounds quite likely that this app may be the problem (though I'm not going to install it to investigate...).

I switched of "Phone" and "run at start up" and it still works

I found something that had no name, uninstalled it, restarted phone and I think it took care of that popup!
Now to switch cards and test the wifi out! Got to stay more on top of these issues. I rarely used the phone online before, only other issues that I dislike is that if you dont update apps... things start to go haywire!
Question, anyone install Linux on Note3? Or do you recommend another OS? I like to have more control over my phone, mini pc...!

nice....crosses fingers

well you can install an emulator that sort of runs linux, since android is linux based. but you can't use it to run the phone as pure linux. there are several pure linux phones out in the market if you want that. with a note 3, i am assuming that it might be possible to root it. you can then install Lineage OS which is as pure android as you can get. the only thing is some of the links to download the necessary file might be broken. most developers use file sharing sites to offer their goodies. but most costs money to keep the links running. over time the developers move on.

but head on over to xda to look.

check this out:

THIS!

This happened to me, as well.

I went so far as to duplicate how I found it, where it was located, and how to delete data vefore uninstalling it.

You would be amazed how many people do an entire factory reset just because of what you did instead.

The force is strong with you.
