Help Help...phone won't boot...can I save internal files???

Hello!

I have a Nexus S which will not start up (permanently stuck at the google logo). Is it possible to still recover files from my internal memory? Tried connecting it directly to my laptop but without the phone actually booting up it's not being recognised. Stupidly I haven't backed up anything in the 18 months I've had the phone so going to be losing a lot of photographs etc.

Any help would be much appreciated!
