HELP please: 4.4.2 update problem

Is there any way to reverse an update (4.4.2 on a Samsung Galaxy S4)? I updated, stupidly, a few days ago and have major problems now:

- something called TouchWiz has appeared and if I don't attend to it immediately, it eats my battery (100% to 40% in less than an hour) and makes my phone very HOT. It's not in my apps so I can't delete it or get to it, but I'm sure it installed with the update to 4.4.2

- some of my contacts were wiped out, some are still there but the phone numbers disappeared, others unchanged. WTH??

- My Home page is now changed. It was a real ordeal to get it customized in the first place but now it's toast....

I want RID of TouchWiz and rid of 4.4.2. Is this possible?

You can't go back but you can fix your problems you having . can I ask did you do a factory data wipe from the settings menu on the phone since you updated.

TouchWiz has been present on your phone even before update. All Samsung phones have it. Basically it's the Samsung launcher and all Samsung apps are TouchWiz apps.

Looks like something went wrong with your update for some reason, probably a corrupted download of files or something. You'd probably need to factory reset to get everything fixed.

The only way to reverse an update is to root the phone and flash it with the correct stock ROM. Voids warranty though. :)

Did you backup your data before? If yes, then you can restore previously backup. Nor you have no way to go back.

Even if he made a backup and restore, he won't go back to 4.3 version. He used a stock update option within the phone from OTA. This means his phone is not rooted, and using stock ROM that came out of the box. In extension, he does not have a nandroid backup which can only be had if you were rooted, which I doubt he was, considering he doesn't even know what TouchWiz is.

No ... I didn't back up first, idiot that I am! If I do a factory reset what data and apps will I lose? Contacts? Photos?

I just did a Google search on TouchWiz and found out that bit about it's always been there. It didn't pop up every 10 minutes, though, so I never knew I had it. I've now set it to default, however, so maybe that will keep it from popping up all the time. That's the most irritating thing about the update. The contacts I've managed to patch up and the home page I've managed to re-create. If I can just stop the battery drain I'll be okay.

Did you not sync your data to Google?
If you factory reset, your phone goes back to out of box state. All your data is gone, all your apps that were downloaded, basically like new. Except that it will be running on the latest update

That's what I suspected (except for the latest update part). Exactly what I do NOT want, so I won't be trying that.

What do you mean about syncing data to Google? My Samsung Planner syncs with the Google calendar, but that's all.

You could have set your contacts to backup to either Google or Samsung servers, allowing you tp retrieve them anytime. Photos could have been set to backup to Google servers as well, automatically after you take each one, or as soon as you connect to the Internet.

Since you aren't rooted, I'd suggest getting Helium backup to backup your apps and app data, then do a factory reset. Note that you should not backup TouchWiz home since apparently it's acting weird. This however, means that you'll have to set the homescreen up again. If your problems continue you'll just have to bite the bullet.
