Help Help please! Gmail or googlemail?

I have just upgraded my original Nexus One to the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The thing is, when I tried to change my email address on the Nexus One to Gmail I ran into problems so kept my Googlemail address to keep everything synced.

When I set up my new Galaxy Nexus, can I make my account a Gmail one from the start? Will it still sync with my market account etc? Or should I still use Googlemail?

Please help me, I am an aged numpty but just can't wait many more minutes before taking my new phone out of the box, charging it up and getting going!

I'm guessing you're in the UK?

If you have older style @googlemail.com address, it's only a cosmetic thing with your email address and doesn't limit anything else about your account. You still have a Google Account the same as any other. You can also change your address to be @gmail.com instead, see here for details. You'll still keep all of your purchased apps, contacts, and email to the old address will still be delivered to your new one.

If that's not what you're asking then you'll need to clarify a little bit :) .

When I had my old Nexus, when I changed my address from Googlemail to Gmail, I found it buggered up my phone. I was ok on the PC but not on my phone. So I reverted to Googlemail again. When I switch on my new Nexus, it presumably will ask me to register. If I register using Gmail, will it still carry over all my apps etc from when I was registered as Googlemail?

Does that clarify? I'm not very good at explaining things and I'm not as technical as most of you on here! (But you've all been very patient and helpful in the past so I keep coming back!)

When you first switch the GNex on, it will ask you to log in to your existing Google Account, or register a new one. As long as you log in in with your existing username and password, and do not manually register a brand new Google account, then you will keep all of your apps and contacts.

Switching your email address on your existing account between @gmail.com and @googlemail.com is completely irrelevant to the above. Just be aware that if you switch from one to the other, it can take up to 24-hours for some Google services to sync with the change.

There's more info and help on the link in my post above.
