Root Help, please: NAND unlock

hancycle

Newbie
Tried to freeze a system app (Photobucket) using AptTek app manager.
I get a message: check NAND unlock on your phone.
How do I do this?
Huawey Ascent2, Android 2.2.3, Rooted. A2Tude.

Can't remove the app. Same message.
Not TB nor Super Manager does it.
I can stop it, exclude it from starting on power-up, but than the phone reboots automatic OTA. That thing is an intrusive pest.

I used Es File Explorer. If you do use Es, make sure you go into settings and mount the system as read/write.

If that fails, you may not be rooted, as you think you are. What happens when you open terminal emulator and type 'su'?

I am pretty sure I am rooted (flashed A2update.zip)
Don't know how to open terminal emulator.
Super Manager has a setting for R/W, but does not delete the app.
AptTek app Manager does not have this option.
I'll try Es File Explorer next.

Used Es file explorer. It does not show an app called Photobucket (/system/app/). There are some others I cannot find (Bubblebash, UNO, etc. bloatware stuff).
Probably the reason why Super Manager says: ".apk file not found".
Must be secretly embedded some where.

The photobucket.apk as well as the other 'secretly embedded' apps are in:

/cust/cricket/us/app

go there using Es, (after you go to settings and click 'root explorer' AND 'mount file system')--->long click the .apk you want to remove and select 'delete' from the pop up list. That is all. Failing that, I don't know how else to help you.

Thanks.
I found the file under /data/crst/app/
Says: "cannot delete file"
I also went in the application manager and got"uninstall unsuccessful"
Bummer.
PhotoBucket's FAQ says: if app came with the providers software there is no way to uninstall it.

The whole point of being rooted is so you can do the things that are 'impossible'. I have removed photobucket completely using the steps provided.

I am thinking your rooting got screwed up/you only have partial root...otherwise it would work. Is there an app called 'superuser' on your phone?

K...when you clicked the 'root explorer' and 'mount file system' in Es, did superuser pop up and ask to allow and remember those settings?

By the way, it did ask SU allow and remeber settings.

Hmm...the only other thing I can think of is maybe downloading ROM Manager and run the 'fix permissions' option. Perhaps that will fix the issue...I kinda doubt it...but worth a shot.

Are you running 2.3.3 or 2.3.5?

If 2.3.5:

Bloatware needed to be removed from 2.3.5
Go to data/dataapp and the following are there:
uno,storefront,photobucket,bubble bash,poynt

Ran Fix permissions - reboot - same thing;
I am running 2.3.3 (phone came with 2.3.5 but in order to root I had to downgrade.
For some reason, the apk file is in several directories:
data/cust/app
cust/cricket/us/app

The one I deleted was the one in the cricket folder. I am afraid if that doesn't work I can't help you though. Seems to work on all the other A2's.

In ES File Explorer, go to Menu>Settings, check Up To Root, Root Explorer and Mount File System boxes. If those are all checked and you still can't remove it, I would suggest trying the app Root Explorer to remove it.

I have done some looking around...

I found that I can't delete the 411 app and the wallpapers...this upset me deeply, so I started REALLY poking around and from what I can tell, there is an 'app' called 'CricketDRMprotectedsomethingsomething.apk that was running. I also noticed a few other 'DRM.apk' type of files with apps either running or services pointing at them. I killed all of these based on my knowledge of DRM and what it does. Still couldn't delete the 411.apk and the wallpapers. My conclusion after looking around at some xml and props, is that certain apps are locked on the phone based on cricket's wishes.

None of this answers why the OP can't remove photobucket.

Now that I have found that removing those apps is going to be more work than it's worth, I guess I am going to have to go to CM7.

My take on this is that it is similar to Bill G's Winders. "File is used by another application".
I read a lot about NAND/NOR (S-on/S-off -- NAND disabled)
I have a 2.3.5 OS that came with the crap. Rooting does not neccessarily make it S-off.
There is a source that has a hack, but only for 4G droids as I understand.
I learned to turn Data off unless I need it. Battery lasts for 5 days and no stupid rebootys and upgrades. Purpose must be to get you off the cell towers.
(Cricket/Sprint slows to a crawl after 1 Gig/mo).

I have NO idea what you are talking about...none of this applies to this thread...

What I was getting at is those DRM apps are clearly 'protecting' the Cricket files. I can't figure out how to get rid of them without using adb.

The main thing to mention is that a 'stock mod'd' rom like A2tude is still going to have Carrier ID and some other CRAP that it needs to function. That alone is enough reason for me to ditch it for CM7...however, Duckmod is FAR from ideal with all the different .zips that need to be flashed post-install. Sorry...but I just don't trust a rom that requires additional zips. (other than gapps.)
