Root HELP Please! Rooted & Semi Bricked- {Video}-

Hey All,

Could really use your help with my phone. I rooted it using unrevoked, but am not sure I setup a recovery image. After I rooted, the phone worked well for a day or two and then would go into a bootloop. Now I can't get the phone into recovery and it won't boot from the SD card. This video (about 56 sec) demonstrates the issue I am having.

Any help getting the phone to work would be much appreciated. Please speak in 3rd grade language, I'm very new to this and didn't mean to tackle something so technical.

Also, here's the info at top left of the boot screen:

Just looks like you are missing a recovery image on the phone. There are two ways to install a recovery since you are s-off. If you can get the phone to boot up completely, you can flash clockwork recovery from the app "rom manager" sometimes you have to install it a few times to get it to stick.

The other method is to download a recovery to you sd card (that should be formatted to FAT32). Place the file on the root of your sd card (not in any folders). Name the file to EXACTLY this: PB31IMG.zip . Now when you when you try to boot your phone into hboot (the screen you are in, in the video). You will see the green text load and then recognize the file on your sd card. You can then follow the prompts to "update your phone". After the file installs, you will then have access to clockwork recovery, which will let you install roms if you wish.

Clockwork can be found here:

Okay, since I can't boot up the phone I opted for the second method. I took the .RUU file and renamed it PB31IMG.zip (is that the same thing as a recovery image?- also, how do I know if I have the right file?)

The phone recognized the file right away and started loading something (i.e. there was a progress bar in top right corner. But after the download process completed, nothing happened. I still can't get past the boot screen.

Happy to post another video if that would help. Any other suggestions?

You want to download this file
http://pvillecomp.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/Clockwork/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-inc_PB31IMG.zip

Name it to PB31IMG.zip, place onto the root of your SD card as before, and that process will load clockwork recovery onto your phone. (First delete the other file you put on your SD card, and delete recovery file linked above off your SD card when done with it). After the file is installed, you will then be able to choose the recovery option in hboot (the white screen in your video).

**You are basically following the process found here:
http://androidforums.com/incredible...egain-root-s-off-htc-unlocked-bootloader.html**

Once you are able to successfully boot into recovery you will be able to load a ROM onto your SD card and install.

If you are looking for a stock experience, you can try this rom

Thanks for all you help, but I still seem to be having problems:

I first reformatted the SD card- deleting the original file and ensuring that it was in FAT32 format. Next, I downloaded the file you specified and named it PB31IMG.zip (all upper case), and placed it on the SD card.

I then put the phone in Hboot and it picked up on the file right away. It asked if I wanted to install the update, I said yes, and then asked if I wanted to reboot, and I did so. Going back into Hboot I then removed the card and tried to select recovery mode. The phone turned off, then on, vibrated 5 times and then shut down. I fired it back up, put it back into Hboot and tried to enter recovery mode. It got stuck on the HTC Incredible screen.

I can load a video if that's not clear. Any other suggestions?

The five vibs is not a good sign:

sdraw, should he possibly run an ruu before attempting the 5 vibes of death fix?

he can use the miniadb_inc file to get adb/fastboot: miniadb_inc.zip

just unzip, place on the root of your PCs C drive.

open a command prompt on windows 7 by: click on start bubble and type comand or cmd in the search bar. it should open a small black command window.

change to miniadb_inc directoty by tying or copy/paste this:
cd c:\miniadb_inc

if you need drivers use these: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

now, place your phone in fastboot, plug it in and type or copy/paste:
fastboot devices

if you get a serial number back youre ready to fix the 5 vibes of death :)

there are only a couple commands that need enteresd in fastboot. you would need to look into setting up the android sdk on a mac, then do the commands in terminal,or just borrow a windows laptop for the project ;) even an older one would work.

Thanks all- just got my hands on a PC and will be trying the recommended steps this evening. Will report back when it's fixed or errors if I encounter any....

Okay- so the command prompt thing did not work. Decided instead to pickup a used phone on craigslist. Thanks everyone for your help!
