So I got a roger's version of the samsung galaxy s captivate. I use fido however, so I bought an unlock code before I got the phone from my bro. I put in my fido sim and start up the phone, it's supposed to ask me for an unlock code but it doesn't. Is there a way to force an unlock somehow? Or does it even matter? I've got it working 100%, had to manually input the apn stuff for fido but it seems to be working fine.

Another quick question from someone clueless with cell phones. Does unlocking it change the phone at all, or just allow access to other networks? Because all this rogers garbage on my phone is pissing me off ;). I much much preferred my old phone where it didn't have any crap from a specific carrier (bought it off newegg already unlocked, nokia e63). It would be AWESOME if I could get this phone to act like that one, without all the rogers bullshit. I'm assuming that unlocking it won't really do anything though, just curious.

No. Unlocking only allows the phone to work on other network. So all of those roger crapware will still stay in your phone.

As for prompting for the unlock code, I thought you need to enter the code in the dial pad? I don't have any experience in unlocking phones since I only buy unlocked phones.
 
Well as far as i know it's supposed to prompt me for an unlock code when I boot it up with a non rogers SIM, but it doesn't. I guess if the phone is working and unlocking it doesn't really do anything it doesn't matter then, right? :p
