I have a rooted htc one m7 on att. Now thats its rooted i cant get it to connect to any network connections. I tried manually setting up the apn settings and no luck. Thanks for any help

OK, rooting in and of itself certainly won't do this - it doesn't actually change anything, just gives you more options. So the question is what else you might have changed in the process.

Can you tell us exactly what you did, step-by-step? Preferably not "I followed this guide", because while it's useful to know what source you used it doesn't tell us whether you did something wrong. Also when you say no network connections, do you mean just data or telephony as well?

Meanwhile I'll move this to our M7 root forum, as it will get a few more eyes on it there.

Thanks for the help. I used the one click cwm installer to root my phone. I cant get any mobile data or phone service all i can get is wi fi. I hooe this helps

This was presumably after unlocking the bootloader? That's not a tool I'm familiar with. So it has actually installed CWM recovery and then done flashed something else to do the rooting? And you've not tried flashing a ROM or making any other mods.

If there's no phone service then this isn't an APN issue - that would only disable data.

It's fixable (as long as you can get into the bootloader it's fixable), it's just a matter of working out what the problem is. I assume you are S-On, since you haven't mentioned any tool that can S-Off, so it might be that a new ROM can fix it.

yes i am s on. And i have tried to flas a different rom. Im running viper 8.1 now and everything works great except i cant connect to any networks. No mobile data or phone service. Acts like its not reading my sim car but im not sure of that. I can get into bootloader and anything else i want. And thanks again for the help

The reason I asked about S-On was that if you are then we should only have to worry about recovery, ROM and kernel, since you can't change other firmware except by using a RUU unless you are S-Off. But if you've tried different ROMs and that hasn't made a difference that doesn't leave much (kernel will anyway come with the ROM, and lack of phone service is a funny one). Flashing a different ROM will have overwritten anything the CWM installer did apart from the recovery itself. Of course you could try replacing CWM with TWRP (possibly reflashing ROM afterwards) - most people use TWRP with the M7, so it's more of a known quantity.

But given the symptoms, can you just check that your IMEI looks OK (Settings > About > Phone identity)? Don't post it here, just want to be sure it isn't blank. You should be able to see your IMSI in the same place - that will confirm that the phone has read the SIM. Check your baseband version too (Settings > About > Software information > More). If any of those things is blank we at least have identified where the problem is (if the IMEI is blank it will be time to ask @scotty85 whether he has any ideas).

The final option is to back up & use a RUU to return the phone completely to stock. If that gets it working again then you could root again following the guide linked here, which many people have used without problems. But if the IMEI is missing wait for advice before trying that - the advice may be to do that anyway, but I'd want to hold fire until we knew more in that case.

So your friend had no phone service at all, yet changing a setting to spoof the Play Store (nothing to do with the telephone service) restored telephony??

Katman, if you want to try this a word of warning. The app in question can be used for purposes which violate AF's terms and conditions, so it's difficult for anyone here to provide support for it. And I don't know of a safe site to download it from: like all apps that can be used for piracy (even if they have other applications) the sites I've seen it on are known malware sites. They may have a clean copy, or they may have had one in the past but infected now. Not being down on Morhaf, just making sure you are aware that there are risks.

Right, so it does seem to be failing to read the SIM. Why this should be is less obvious.

Do you have another sim you can test with? Or check your SIM in a different phone, but the former would be better.

Yes i put the sim card out of my daughters working phone in my phone and still nothing. No phone and no data. Everything else works like a dream

How current is the firmware?

This sounds like what happens with Viper when there's a significant mismatch between the rom and firmware versions.

Is that why you've chosen an earlier Viper?

Well now I'm really confused. I relocked my boot loader and ran a stock ruu and it still won't read my sim card. Wth. Anybody have any ideas cause I don't have a clue

That is a serious puzzle, since an RUU should overwrite absolutely everything.

And there was no physical interaction with the SIM before the problem started (e.g. removing and re-inserting)? Just wondering whether mechanical damage is a possibility.

I dont know why it wont read my daughters sim card either. Her phone works fine and i can take it out of her phone and put it inside mine and nothing. Seems like it has to be in the phone not the software. But what can i do to fix it
