Root Help put this newbie's mind at ease... lol

It was my first time, and I've got to say that it was more difficult than I thought it would be, but I also felt an odd sense of excitement that just kept me going.

I came into my room and I gazed at her as I realized that something had to change between us... She had a serene expression and my mind was racing, but we gave way to our feelings and our lives had then changed before we even realized it...

Of course, Windows Vista started playing mind games with me, I had and internet service interruption for most of the day, and my HTC USB cable turned out to be defective, but I think that I've successfully rooted my One V...

It took me a long time, but I've made it to step 6A of CafeKampuchia's guide, so that makes me think that I've rooted my phone. I've placed my backup of my stock rom to my pc and I feel ready to use a custom rom but I'm not sure which one... There seems to be quite a few... I'm thinking of using jmz's "JmzOneV4", but what do you guys recommend?

Also rebooting from CWM5 takes a long time, and I don't even know if I've been rebooting my phone properly at all... The screen goes black but has a faint glow and it just stays like that, after a long time I panic and start pressing the power button and volume rocker until white HTC screen shows up again and I feel relieved, is there something that I'm not doing properly?

Finally, as I like to overclock my PC's, I'm also getting the temptation of doing the same with the One V. Are their any forums that talk about benchmarks, stability, or just anything that I should know before trying to overclock? For example, will it adversely affect the lifespan of the phone or the non removable battery by doing so? Are the improvements really worthwhile?

Thanks for the help guys, I love electronics, and Android platform and these forums have really opened up a fun new world for me!!:)

I would head over to XDA forums for development on this phone. I'm using Paranoid android right now, with sick kernel. Currently clocked to 1.7ghz with no issues at all. Make sure though when finding a rom for this phone, you use a PrimoC one. PrimoU is GSM and can brick your device. Also known as a paperweight.

Thank you Prinny :) I was considering using Paranoid Android as well but not being able to record at 720p because of crashes is a deal breaker for me at the moment. Is there a reason why you chose 1.7ghz as your clock speed? I think that stock speeds for this particular Scorpion cpu range from 1-1.5ghz, so I'll definitely try 1.5ghz to start if I decide to use the PA ROM with the Sick Kernel.

Also, okay, so I used JmzOneV4 and I have set it up with my typical apps, games and configuration... Can I make of back up of it, and then maybe try Paranoid Android and perhaps go back and restore my JmzOneV4 backup if I don't like PA? Will it still work well along with all my apps, or does it screw it up since I have to factory reset in CWM and erase the caches to switch roms...??

I went from MIUI to paranoid. I haven't tried restoring a backup so I can't say. However I chose 1.7 as the clock speed due to it being fast and stable with no issues. What I really enjoy is I can set a apps default DPI individually and it works without a problem. Tablet or phone mode etc. Oh and cm9 themes are compatible which is a huge plus.

The HTC Evo V got ICS didn't it? I would hope that HTC would do the same with the One V and Jelly Bean... HTC is about to get competition from the Samsung Galaxy Reverb, and plus, the One V is part of the "One" lineup, so it would make some sense to update the V just as the X and S have already...

The Evo V shipped with ICS, no OTA. The One X and One S were confirmed to receive a 4.1(Jellybean, not just Sense4.1) update, but have not received that one as of yet (just the sense update for some versions, still on ICS officially).

It's possible that the One V (gsm version) gets an OTA at some point, but I haven't seen anything concrete on it. I wouldn't count on one from VM USA at all, they are notorious for not updating devices.

Yes that's right, I keep forgetting since my bro has the original Evo 3D and that one once had GB 2.3.4... Anyway, I do hope things will change for the better in that regard. We've come a long way from the Intercept, Triumph, and the good old Optimus V days... lol
