Help Help regarding text notifications

Hi all.

I'm new to this forum and even more so i'm new to the Samsung S3 having moved over from the Iphone. Its comes highly recommended (the s3).

I have an issue (for me this is major!!) thats quite a biggie for me and would love some help.

At work my phone needs to be on silent and texts are important. With my Iphone it was set to vibrate every 2 mins to basically notify me i had a text if i didnt answer it the first time. This is a godsend for me.

I'm trying to find this option on the S3 but no luck yet, i'm assuming i'm just being thick. As it is it just vibrates the once and thats it. Which is pretty bad because sometimes (most!!) i miss the first vibrate and don't realise i have an important text. So the multiple vibrations every couple of mins are important to me. As it is i'm completely oblivious to the fact i've even got any messages unless i take my phone out of my pocket and look.

Is their any setting i can change to make it vibrate every couple of mins etc like the Iphone? Please help. Cheers.
 
GO SMS has a reminder option... you can set the interval time as well as the number of reminders (or whether to keep repeating it).

It will use your notification setting you have set on your phone to remind you, so if you have that set to vibrate it should work.

(I only mention the above because if you use a different ringtone for your GO SMS messages, the reminders will use that one for the initial text, and then use whatever notification setting you have set for the phone under the settings option, I don't use vibrate so the ringtone confused me at first.....)

Oh, there are other settings if you place your phone on the desk and walk away, then miss a text/call; you can set it to notify you of missing texts or calls when you pick it up by vibrating (under settings/motion) without turning the screen on.

You might also want to set your LED to light up with a missed text/call. (under LED in settings)

Both of these are in the phone settings whether you use GO SMS or not it will work.

I like GO SMS because you can change the missed text icon for individual contacts to look different so you can make your important contacts (work) look different than your friends or family. I am talking about the icon at the top of the screen when you turn it on.

I think you can even set vibrate patterns for specific contacts (in GO SMS), but it will only work the first time and any reminders will be your standard notification.
 
I lied. GO SMS has a reminder notification under settings so you can change it to be different than your phone notification settings. So thanks to you I learned something new!!

Thanks for the help i appreciate it. Although something small for others this was a big deal to me as it was important. Without it then i very well may of taken the phone back (i've only had it two days) to the phone shop.

Hmmm looking at GO SMS it seems to have bad rating more recently. It offers more than i need/want.

I just want to be notified every couple of mins that i have a text if i missed it the first time. This option in one most phones, why not the most modern phone out their the S3! Very odd.

Starting to regret replacing the Iphone now if i'm honest. Still its early days so i need to give it chance. I'll no doubt learn to like it :)

Is their any other way i can change these settings without downloading an app?
 
I understand totally! My hubby had an iphone for 16 hours and took it back and went back to his flip phone because of how easy it was to flip open the phone and hit a speed dial number. He could do that without looking at the phone.

I do believe there is no 'reminder' option for the stock messaging app, but there are plenty of apps and texting apps other than GOSMS you could try. Handcent, Chomp to name a couple. Hopefully someone here will know of one.
 
You can turn off all those things people are neg rating GO SMS about. You can just use the basic mode or more advanced features if you choose.

it has been a godsend to me because I do not carry my phone around the house all day, and I also like how I can change the appearance of certain contacts message screens so I no longer send embarrassing texts to the wrong people. As well as the individual notifications so I know if someone important has texted me and not just my bored brother LOL
