Root Help! Rooted my phone, now can't download anything.

Lurker
I rooted my LG Optimus Elite last week, kept stock rom and didn't tether (I wanted to take it slow since I'm a noob at this). I slowly deleted factory apps I don't use (google+, google movies, maps, messenger, google talk) and had no problem. I added and deleted some small apps, messaging systems, and a ringtone or two. Then I noticed that I had 2 Downloads apps, and neither of them ever contained anything when I opened them up trying to find ringtones I had just downloaded. So I deleted the two Downloads apps, and now Google Play keeps crashing. I've cleared the cache and data, and that allows it to run longer, but when I spend more than I few seconds browsing on Google Play, it crashes again. There is an error message but it doesn't display more than a millisec, and I can't decipher it.
I used SD Maid which I probably shouldn't have done because it's a bit too technical for me to understand how to undo things.
Have I screwed up my ability to download apps? Help!

Can you download from the web, or a computer?
If yes then flash a custom recovery, and then flash a stock ROM. That should fix it.
You might have to lose all your data though.

Read the first post a couple times

Stock ROM: http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=5002519
If you read that first link it should be easy to flash the ROM.
Also make sure you flash the right carrier ROM. A Sprint ROM will break MMS and I think a couple other thing on a Virgin Mobile phone. Same for a Virgin Mobile ROM on a Sprint phone.
And I suggest making a backup after you flash the stock ROM so if you accidentally brick the phone you can restore to a working condition. :)
(Sorry for the double post I didn't realize I did that)

Deleting stock apps doesn't make extra room that you can use, it's on the /system partition. Next time just freeze them with "app quarantine" if you don't want them to run. If you have an issue after you freeze something just defrost it. Also there are some debloating threads to give you an idea of what you can touch.

I'd suggest you install a custom recovery, as DMedina has said. Once you have the recovery, you can install a new rom like Sleipnir or GsnapElite, or if you want to be on the cutting edge; CM9, and the problem will be fixed. If you want to stay otherwise stock, you can flash gapps in recovery and it will fix your google play issue. Just make sure you get the gapps for 2.3.7:
