Help rooting evo 4g 2.2 using ubuntu

[joeo1991]

Hi guys!
I am the proud owner of an htc evo and I love this phone. However, I would love to be able to get root access. I have looked all over the internet for a solution but nothing seems to work!!! I would not necessarily be looking to flash custom roms, but rather get free wifi tether and the likes up and running.
What I'm working with:
Software version: 3.70.651.1
Baseband version: 2.15.00.11.19
Hardware version: 003
Hboot version: -2.10.0001
And I only have access to an Ubuntu netbook (10.10)at the time being.
If anyone has any advice, that would be awesome!

rooted my EVO yesterday using rooting for dummies. Follow directions carefully and all worked well.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunantely though, the example is using a windows machine and I only have access to an ubuntu netbook, and do not know how to run the package I downloaded.
