Help select new Android phone, switching from iPhone

I recently lost my iPhone 3G which was a PITA anyway.

A few things about my new phone to be.

1. around $200 new or better used one for same price or possibly sign contract.
2. unlock-able, currently using T-mo but may change that.
3. Wifi
4. GPS, a good one that can be used offline
5. flash card slot to store maps, video and books
6. 1.5MP or better camera
7. Touch screen
8. No sliding anything or any keyboards preferred, just more things to brake
9. Preferably faster than my old iphone

I know nothing about Android OS, is it upgradable or will I be stuck with a useless, no longer supported phone/ os in 6 months.

Things I use mostly used on my iphone:
phone, text, camera, GPS (topo for hiking), calendar, alarm clock and plant guide apps.

Also I don’t use or have a data plan, so I don’t care about all the 3G 4G stuff

Thank you for any recommendations or direction you can point me towards
 
There are so many options for all that I don't even know where to start.
If someone else with more knowledge than me doesnt post soon i'll give you my best opinions, altought I am far from an expert.
 
The nexus S is everything except the sd card part. but it has a good amount of internal memory. Its currently $100 dollars at best buy with a two year contract. The mytouch 4G is also good but it isnt unlocked.

You could also wait for the sensation or G2x which are coming out really soon
 
Yeah the G2X is coming out this month and the Sensation should be out sometime this summer. Personally, I'd wait for the Sensation. But if you can't do that then I'd recommend the G2X coming out!

Edit: But if you really just cannot wait and have to have a phone this instant, then I would go for the Nexus S.
 
I think most carriers these days require you to sign up for a data plan if you get a smartphone... so you might want to just bite the bullet there and find some cool things you'd like to do with a data connection, because you'll probably have one regardless.

At any rate, I have the Droid X and I love it. You should look into it, I think it hits all the bullets on your wishlist.

(besides that it's Verizon)
 
Hold on, you can use maps offline? Where have I been, I know my old G1 can use satellites for postioning even when I am out of service range, but what map app do you use to show you where you are? Google maps won't work... not trying to hijack.

OP, I think many many droid phones meet your criteria.
 
Fetch Questman, check out Locus Free/Locus Pro. It provides online and offline map usage as well as track recording amongst other features. It requires GPS to run, not the "Use Wireless Networks" setting. There seems to be an issue with some offline usage of some maps so make sure to read the notices about the latest update (What's New tab or Recent Changes text) beforehand.
 
It's much easier to look at what the carrier is offering, pick the phones that match your budget, read the specs and make a final selection question, like "phone A, B or C?".
