Help sim wont activate/register..

need some help, the other day while i was out and about my phone packed in which was annoying as i needed to find a postcode either by google or calling home,got home to check what was wrong i popped her indoors sim into my phone and it worked fine so the mississ picked me up a new sim from voda,when I stuck it in the phone and it failed to register so i called them and they activated it it still didnt register 3hrs later i then got someone on chat who said id need to wait 24hrs to which i complained that they told me up to 2hrs, and after this she then said it was alsp faulty, then this morning i called they said they cannot activate it as it was obtained from a store not through online and i had to go back to the store..

I did this and got another sim he activated it there and then and said should be an hr or so this was at 2pm its now gone 9pm and still wont activate..

Monologue over this is whats actually going on..

constantly getting com.android.phone has stopped working error,

if i try and select the network manually via settings it sometimes finds networks and when i select voda 2g or 3g it thinks, then says registering, and then says sim does not allow a to connect to this network,

when i dont touch the phone there is a signal, but when i touch the phone com.android pops up and the signal goes with a red x also sim ico pops up with a red x,

when the signal is present i can receive calls and texts but when i touch the phone the com.android error kills everything so cant answer call or send text..

every now and then it asks for sim network unlock code

phone was always a vodafone phone
sim i put in to test was a tmobile sim worked perfectly - made calls sent text no errors

any ideas?

ok update ive just tried the sim in an old phone id forgoten about and it works, so i dont get why it wont work in my phone when a tmobile will (this old phone is 2g not 3g i think not sure what diff that makes)..

After a bit of thinking i realised every time i took the sim out and re inserted it the booted up nit did something different and it occured to me maybe the tmoblie sims were thicker so ive put a piece of paper down the back of the sim it now works fine - SO THERES A BATCH OF VODA SIMS THAT ARE NOT THICK ENOUGH FOR ALL PHONES AND DONT MAKE CONTACT PROPERLY...
