EDIT: okay i am able to get my phone back to the 'Downloading' screen, the giant yellow android robot shovelling and the words below that 'Downloading...' and 'Do not turn off Target!!!!' If i can just get some assistance in how to fricken flash my phone to anything that works, factory reset, clockmod, whatever!
EDIT: Oh sheeeet I think it might be working!!!!
)) I put the sd memory card in the phone (somewhere I read to NOT have that in for Odin so i had taken it out). I went back into Odin, did same as before and now it appears to be flashing the phone, there is a progress horizontal bar showing something is happening, I did not see this before. Crossing my fingers, will report back. Guarded optimism.
EDIT: Yes! My phone is working again, Odin flashing worked! Holy crap this was a nightmare and has taken up my whole day so far, but this is something good to know how to do, to fix a bricked phone!
I have a soft bricked Epic 4G that I need to get working, geeze i could not even call 911 right now if i needed to. This is a Samsung Epic 4G Galaxy S. I got in this fix today because I renamed system files on the phone related to the Carrier IQ rootkit software that is in the news, put on Sprint and ATT phones, I thought renaming them would disable them. It did a lot more.
I downloaded Odin 3 v.181 and what looks like a flash rom file SPH-D700-EH06-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 and tried using that as the 'PDA' for Odin, (I did the '1' and power button to put my phone in download mode); odin saw my phone but not flash update happened, it just spit out messages about the md5 being okay. And now my phone is really jammed up, the screen of the phone just shows an icon of a mobile phone and a caution symbol and my PC, as if there is a problem connecting my phone to my PC (Windows 7 x64).
I have the drivers for the phone for Win 7 x64 on my PC, and when I had run Odin it seems Odin recognized the phone as Odin shows a com:1 or something like that to indicate it recognized the device (phone).
I am really at a loss what to do, is my phone done for or is their hope of reviving it?
Any help appreciated.
