Help? Streaming phone to tablet

[omnius]

Why is this so hard? I've poured over hundreds of searches and I can't find one single solution. I don't want LAN streaming at home, I want to be able to watch a movie stored on my phone on my tablet over WiFi mobile hotspot.

Bluetooth is too spotty. Apps like WiFi file explorer won't stream vids properly. I can move files but they won't stream. I'm at my wits end here.

Question, why not just store them in the tablet in the first place? I just find it odd. I don't put any videos on my phone other than the ones I took with it because I know I'll watch them on the tablet.

The only option I can think of is have the videos on a folder syncing to Dropbox, because they have streaming service AFAIR

Maybe a Samba server on the phone and either a Samba client + player that will stream from it or a player that can stream directly from a fileshare?
