Hi everyone.. first post on the forums!

Anyways.. I currently have a contract with AT&T (I have an iPhone 3gs.. boo!) and my contract expires this Sunday (May 1st). I came here because obviously people know what they're talking about.. and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what to get. 3g or 4g it doesn't matter - but i'd like it to be something that is currently out.. Thanks everyone for the help. Have a nice day!

You should really say what things are important to you. Do you like to root and install custom mods? Stay away from Motorola. They like to lock down their devices with encryptions. Is battery life a huge deal for you? HTC is known for poor battery life. You want a physical keyboard? Check out the Droid 2. You just want a total beast? Droid X or Thunderbolt.

Also, check out this thread, and others in the Verizon forum.

thanks for the reply. I think I'm looking for a physical keyboard (not a qwerty I guess) and I suppose battery life is important to me. I'm not going to be doing much hacking at all.. maybe just listen to music and use the apps (please don't suggest and iPhone lol, I'm looking for something different!). once again, thanks for the help.

Lol, you will never see me suggest iphone! Ok, sounds like the Droid 2 is the choice for you. Google reviews if still unsure, and also go to the Verizon store and play with it a bit.

Do you have a price range? With a new contract, you can get a Droid X super cheap, and I absolutely love it. The TBolt (and Charge) is going to be more costly, in my opinion not worth the extra cash but you may feel differently. The stock music player on motorola is fine, not fantastic... but (welcome to Android!) there are tons of options out there for a better music player (I use PowerAmp).

(note that both the droid X and TBolt DON'T have physical keyboards... but the touchscreen ones they do have-- yes they're qwerty, but you can get different ones if you want-- are fantastic. I think you'll end up loving them and deciding to never go back to a physical keyboard again)

If you're concerned with technical details, once you narrow your choices down to just a few phones you can go into the store and play around with them to see what you think.

Physical keyboard would be a qwerty...

Getting a phone tomorrow.. Droid X or the pricey Thunderbolt? Which one would be better for playing music? I know both of them aren't as good as the iPhone but I'm choosing one of those androids. thanks for the help.

I have the hTc EVO; a friend has the Motorola DROID X. I love her phone. It is comparable to mine but hers kicks the shiite out of mine when it comes to on board memory 8 gig vs 500 meg for my EVO.

You will love a phone without a physical keyboard in less than a weeks time trust me.

Do you want a dated phone like the droid X? its been out for awhile and would think you want something more current than that. The Bolt in my opinion is a good phone and plus you will have 4G LTE enabled phone. So when your area gets it or if your area already has it then your more up to date than the Droid X. I am not knocking the X in any way.

Samsung are really slow with updating their software on their phones and is why I will never own one.

My bolt I get good battery life with moderate use I can get a good 36 hrs out of it. Granted some gets better and some gets worse. There is an update about to come out that is suppose to fix many problems with the bolt like battery life. Many people recommend the LTE on/off app to turn off the 4G on the phone if you dont have 4g in your area or if you want 3g to help with battery life. There are many things you can do to improve battery life but no matter what phone you get if you use it a lot the battery life is going to suck.

Main thing is to go to verizon and play with the phones your looking at and see which one you like the most. Plus you have 14 days to return it if your not happy with it and get another phone.

+1, actual hands on with the phones is the best way to truly know which one is going to be right for you.

I wouldn't look pass the Incredible 2. It's essentially the thunderbolt without the extra screen size and 4G. For $50 less, you can get the Inc2.
