help vzw note 4

[1] how do i find the settings? its used to be left soft button next to home [vzw] is the only way to get to settings now from top notification?

[2] how do i get past run programs? i used to hold down home button? can i change the home button on long press to do this?

[3] how can i move my text from note 2 to note 4? i used to use sms back up but when i try to move n4 keeps asking if i want to use sms back as my messaging app. which i dont but even when i say yes it still doesnt load the texts up using sms back to restore.

[4] how do i unmount sd card?

1. Yes. Sadly it seems so. Unless you add a different launcher which likely I will go back to nova. .

2. Click the left button

3. SD card.

4. there is an option under storage to unmount.

1) There is a Settings app, put it on your home screen.

3) Samsung makes a very clever app called Smart Switch, which can be found in the Play Store. Load and open it on both old and new devices, select what you want to move from the old device and push 'transmit' - then sit back and watch the magic happen. The devices need to be close together, it seemed to work best on mine if they were pointed at each other, as opposed to side by side.
 
1. You can always move the "setting button" to your home screen. Unfortunately a couple of the buttons we used to know have been changed....but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

2. Cpt Sexy answered.

3. You can install anther texting app such as GoSMS and use their backup. Also google backup gives the option for saving texts.

4. Nothing has changed from the way you mount/unmount SD cards.

I thought you just hold down the left (recent apps) button for a second or two then choose the icon on the bottom right?
 
I have a few more issues...

Anyone know how to take a screen? i used to hold pen button touch screen with stylus and power button to take a screenshot??

i also had a desktop clock in clock settings but that seems to be gone to from clock.

also how do i make my pics save to sd and not to internal storage?

I saw a setting that showed taking a screen shot as swiping the edge of your hand from right to left on the screen. See Settings > Motions and Gestures to turn it on/off.

I suspect this is some multi-key combination also, I don't happen to know what it is.
 
I am desperately trying to get all my stuff from my Note 3 to the Note 4 using Smart Switch. Note 4 is ready to go... but...

The Note 3 side is ticking me off! I can't hardly get Smart Switch to even get started without it closing immediately, saying "Smart Switch cannot transfer data while recording audio."

I'M NOT RECORDING ANY AUDIO!!!

So while I'm waiting on a reply from Samsung tech support, I thought I'd see if anyone else in here has encountered the problem and overcome it. I'd love to hear the solution!

I had that happen at first before even getting my Note 4. But, while I was on a call on speakerphone, I happened to open smart switch on my Note 3 and then it worked. By the time I got the note 4, it opened fine on my Note 3. Good luck.
 
Thanks, Lestat. I tried that. I called my Darling Bride's phone, put my phone on speaker, and opened Smart Switch with no problem. After hanging up, it closed: "unable to open Smart Switch while recording audio."

I am NOT - NOT - going to remain on a speaker phone call with my wife's phone the whole time I'm transferring stuff! There HAS to be another solution...

EDIT: Another solution! I think...

I talked to Samsung and the rep said to use Kies 3 on the PC, back up the Note 3 to the PC and then do a restore to the Note 4. I asked about the system files and was assured that they would not be adversely affected. I'm backing up now but take a tip from me: clear out your call log first! I've been stuck on backing up the call log for half an hour now :eek:
 
Don't know the answers to all of your questions, but:

Pressing the left (of home) button will bring up all of your past apps.
Holding down the same button will bring up your menu where settings can be found.

Yes, this is a change and was a little confusing for me.

yes thanks! i agree confusing but now i got the hang. but i would like to remap the home button if possible. i dont need google now.

I do LOVE that they fixed 2 spen from note 2 where you can put the pen back either way into the slot and it goes in!
