Hi, I am new to this forum, and not very tech knowledgeable, so please bear with me! If I have posted this in the wrong spot, please forgive me. I have a Samsung Android SGH-T989 and want to download music from windows media on my pc to my phone. (I'm thinking I should be able to do this, right?) I plugged in my phone to the pc, but my phone is not recognized - incomplete installation. I get the message: CDC Serial not installed. Install latest driver for this device. When I prompt the computer to resolve this (fix this) I get: CDC Serial doesn't have a driver. I don't know what this means...I am able to transfer pics from my phone to the computer without issues, just not music from computer to phone. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much!

Help! What is CDC Serial?

So helpful, but I was looking for someone nice that could tell me why this pops up when I want to download music from my computer to my phone. My phone is connected to the computer and when the prompt comes up to resolve or troubleshoot this CDC issue, I still get an incomplete installation of my device and no CDC driver.
Sorry your reply does not help me. As I already stated, I am not tech savvy and this is a new android and I would just love some assistance in being able to transfer music to my phone. I thought this forum could help me...

My apologies for the snide post. We really don't approve of that sort of thing.
In reference to your problem, you have the Samsung Galaxy S2 from T-mobile, so I will move this post to that forum. It's best to get advice from people who have the same phone so that menus and options are the same.
There are a few ways to connect your phone to your PC. Out of the box, if you plug in the phone with no drivers installed on the PC you should see on the phone MTP mode. Depending on the version of windows you are using, you should see your phone show up under devices. You can copy files to and from the device. In order to sync and connect to kies you must have the proper drivers installed. Download and install kies from Samsung's website. It will have the appropriate drivers and should install them properly the next time you plug in your phone.
You can also connect your phone as a mass storage device. For that you will go to settings>applications>USB utilities and select mass storage. Then, when you plug in your phone all user accessible areas will show up as a flash drive. You internal will be one drive and if you have a MicroSD card installed, that will be a second drive. You can copy files back and forth without special drivers. Many people prefer to mount their phones this way.
Finally there is debugging mode. This is for accessing the phone's file system for programming, troubleshooting and direct access through the android debug bridge. We don't really need to go into that. I just let you know in case you run across posts talking about it.

Actually, I (finally) discovered what kies air was all about and transferring media files to my phone was incredibly easy! I can't believe I was lost for so long but I guess you can eventually teach an old dog new tricks! I have already transferred a lot of music and know how to do so again in the future. Thanks again for putting up with my newbie question. I will make sure if I have any questions in the future that I can't figure out, to come to this forum!
