HELP! Whenever I receive a text it says: "New Message from John* (or whatever contact it is)"

HELP! Whenever I receive a text on my Samsung Galaxy S3 it says: "New Message from John* (or whatever contact it is)". How do I turn this off? It only does it for some contacts.

Ok maybe I miss understand the question:confused: But When I get a text from a person that is in my contact list and it shows the name that is a good thing for me that way I know who it is. Is this right or not?
 
Sounds like you don't want the scrolling text in notification bar? If so, open you messaging App. Tap menu to get to options/settings. Scroll to "notifications". Make sure scrolling notifications are unchecked.
 
OP hadn't responded, so I don't know if this is what they meant, but it may help someone else!
 
I think you're right, sherri. I think that is what OP was referring to.

But I don't know of any Android device that doesn't do this and why anyone would want it changed as it only does that temporarily and then just has a small mail icon.

sounds like it might belong with the "how do i delete certain pictures (or videos) from my gallery?" questions...

someone is getting texts, and doesn;t want someone ELSE to know who their from...just a guess
 
I agree. When my phone is docked and screen is on (using GPS, for example, I don't need the text message (or sender) being displayed.

Just my own issues! :-D

do you mean it says it as in sound?
If so it is an option in driving mode. Go in to driving mode and switch off the option there
