Root help with clockwork recovery nandroid backup

I read to make a backup nandroid before reformatting your sd, to flash sprecovery because clockwork recovery doesn't give me the backup option.... the problem is the "flash alternate recovery" option is greyed out and I can't find out anywhere why that is and what to do to get sprecovery. Your help is appreciated.

Flash a different kernel/recovery via odin
