Help with different USB ports on power strip

Lee33

Newbie
I was on Amazon looking for a new surge protector for my computer stuff. One has three USB ports, 1 is labeled 5V/1A and the other is 5V2.1A. Does anyone know the difference? One for phones maybe and the other for tablets? I was going to plug in my new Samsung wireless pad to one of those.

Thanks

The difference is the output. The 1A (one amp) charging port will work with all devices, but it may charge some very slowly (or if you are using the device heavily it may not charge at all). The 2A (two amp) charging port provides twice the output and can charge devices faster provides the device is able to use the whole 2 amps.

There is generally little concern with putting "too much amperage" into the device as the hardware regulates the amount of current it can safely use.
