Help with Group Texting. (not the usual)

I've got groups set up in my google account and they have synced up successfully with my phone. However, whenever i want to send a text to the group, it still makes me choose each member of the group individually. Why is there not a select all feature? I feel like having to do this defeats the whole purpose of a group in the first place... Is there anyway to get around this or is there something blatantly obvious that I'm missing?

What phone do you use and what SMS app? It has something to do with that too, or if you use another contacts app.
