Help with Hero please

Hi. I have a HTC Hero with Sprint. I never see the 3G symbol on my phone when I'm in a 3G area, I only see the EV indicator.

I believe that is 3G. There is another symbol in the instructions for non 3G. There's smarter folks here that explain it better. I would like to know what the 1XRTT data service is anyway. TC

Thing of Evdo (EV) as 3G and 1x as 2G.

EVDO, or Evolution Data Only/Evolution Data Optimized, is a 3G mobile broadband technology used by Verizon, Sprint, and Alltel.

It's because it's not a GSM phone. iPhone has nothing to do with it
