Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and to Android. I've just switched over from BB and am having some problems with my HTC Desire Z. I've searched the forums and didn't find anything specifically related to my problem so figured I'd make a post, my apologies if I missed an existing thread...
My situation: I've just started up a small business. I use multiple google calendars to schedule deliveries etc. and have them running on a TV screen in my warehouse so my staff can always have instant access to info. I actuallly update the calendars from my Android while on the road (it was glitchy setting it up so that the multiple calendars would appear on my phone but I figured it out) Also use google docs for payroll and so on. I love almost everything about this phone... I have found it to be extremely glitchy though.
For example:
- The phone turns off sometimes when I disconnect my bluetooth.
- Swype works briefly and then just stops working. (I know it's a beta... my girlfriend has it on her Samsung Galaxy S with no problems)
- Whatsapp was so annoying with trying to merge contacts that I uninstalled it. (and I assume that's a whatsapp glitch not android)
I know it's a new phone and can live with most of these glitches. However my #1 issue is that this thing doesn't seem to communicate very well with Outlook. I use outlook for all of my contacts and personal calendar and cannot live without it. I've already thought about switching everything to gmail, but I don't like the interface and don't want to do that.
I've got google calendar sync running and that seems to be doing a good job syncing my outlook calendar with my personal gmail account.
CONTACTS IS A HUGE PROBLEM: The first thing it did was merge a bunch of my contacts. For example it merged the following contacts:
Name: John Smith
Mobile: 999-999-9999
Email:johnsmith@gmail.com
Name: Dave Doe
Business: 888-888-8888
And turned them into:
Dave Doe:
Mobile 999-999-9999
Business: 888-888-8888
Email: johnsmith@gmail.com
HUGE PROBLEM. I've already tried to call a couple of clients and ended up calling someone else. It's already changed my outlook contacts like this so I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can do about that, other than manually go in and fix a few hundred contacts.
The next problem is it stops syncing all together. For some reason it will sync fine (other than the merging problem) the first couple of syncs and then it just stops. I put a test name on the phone and it doesn't end up in outlook after the sync, or vice versa.
I've already uninstalled/reinstalled HTC Sync, Google Calendar Sync, and completely wiped the phone. And then started from scratch. But the pattern seems to repeat itself. And when I reinstalled the first thing I did was turn off gmail contacts sync - which is on by default so it did copy a few contacts over before I was able to cancel the sync. And I also deleted all contacts in the settings menu before syncing with outlook.
Does anyone know of a fix for the syncing issues? I really hate RIM, but if I can't solve this issue I have no choice but to go back to them...
