help with ics (wont fetch email after certain date)

Mikey W

Lurker
Hi people
This is my first post and I'm new to android here go's

I have been using k9 mail for about 2 month and all of a sudden it has stopped receiving mail and wont fetch mail after the 24-09-12 I can send fine I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and it will only call mail up to the 24-09-12. My server is pop3 and I use my pc as the main source using the recent: command on outlook so it collects mail even if I open it on my phone .
Imap4 isn't an option because I leave my mail on my server for backup and theres in excess of 10, 000 mail on there. I have tried another stock app thats already on my phone (galaxy s3) and I get the same problem i have also tried aquamail and still only fetch's up to 24-09-12
i havn't knowingly changed any settings but it obviously is not the app at fault and points towasrd's o/s or the phone? maybe this could be another app causing conflict?

Any input or ideas will be appreciated Thankyou

Mikey W

It's not the OS or the phone. It might be Outlook, or something else. I'll try to help sort this out, but...

First, when you say "my server is pop3" I assume you do *not* mean a server that you own and maintain. But you don't say if the problem account is Gmail, Hotmail, your ISP, a private domain or what.

Second, the 'recent' command is not necessary to get mail on a PC that has already been opened on your phone.

Third, you don't say clearly whether or not you are getting mail anymore at all or only not on your phone. I assume you mean only the phone, but?

Fourth, you say you have over 10,000 emails and that you leave them on the server. That's a lotta email. Really...a...LOT...of...email. Have you tried deleting some? Maybe the server is just full.

Welcome to the forums Mikey W.

Is there an app on google play with K9 or are you using the stock mail app on your phone or outlook or what?

And i would agree with CrashDamage, is there any reason to keep 10K emails? i mean wow, that is a ton of email!

ok guy's
answers to crashdamage q's
1. sorry my isp is virgin media on the old blueyonder.co.uk.
2. for some reason if i dont use the recent: command (pc in outlook) and open the email on my phone i dont see it on my pc, i have tried all ways and this was the only way what worked.
3.i recieve mail fine on pc but havn't recieved anything on my phone after 24-09-12.
4.just never go on server to delete old ones (which i should im lazy) my mail box on isp is only about 25% full.

@ digital controller
I sat and cleared up my isp copy emails to see if it made a difference but no joy.

my partner has a mail box also on my account (not an alias) and has the same setup
phone and email app and hers is absoultly fine i have compared every possible setting on k9 and there's no difference which would suugest to me k9 is not at fault.
i have also tried to force stop and clear data and re-install over 3g and wifi this makes no difference also. i have a task killer app too but so does my partner using the same settings which rules that out.
im absolutley puzzled guy's so really appreciate you helping out, if i have have missed info let me no.

many thanks Mikey

2. for some reason if i dont use the recent: command (pc in outlook) and open the email on my phone i dont see it on my pc said:
I think this because pop is enabled on isp for all mail that has arrived since undefined.

Again, the 'recent' command should not be needed to get mail on the PC already seen on the phone. Something is wrong there. It could even be the problem.

In K9 go to server settings and make sure sync deletes and sync read are both checked.

DO NOT use any task killer or memory optimizer. Android is excellent at handling processes and memory with no help from 3rd-party apps or user assistance. Just let Android do it's job, relax and enjoy your phone.

Moved the recent command and still the problem exists. i didn't thinks this was the problem as my partners works fine.

These are checked.

cool thanks for that i have got rid of the task killer.

the be all and end all is that all my settings on pc in outlook and email app are the exact same as another s3 that has no hickups which points toward 1. a fault with the phone or 2. a setting within ics?
do you have any more ideas.

many thanks,
Mikey.

It has started working again all is fine don't no what the actual problem was but all is fine
Thanks for the input guys
