Help Help with managing storage on android device

Hello,

I am helping my mom with her Android device. I have been an IOS user for a couple years now, so I am out of the loop with Android. I tried a Google Search on this topic, but I was overwhelmed with the different sets of instructions I came across. So I am hoping someone can be kind and guide me through the following issues:

The device is a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. The device has only 8gb of built in storage. It does not have any more space to add basic apps and data. However, there is 29.68 gb available space on the SD card (out of 29.71 gb total space on the SD.) In other words, the SD card is virtually unused.

I know this is a relatively old device, but I am wondering the best way to utilize the SD card while not affecting performance of the system too much.

-- Should I transfer some apps to the SD card? If so, how can I do this?
-- How can I set the system up to automatically save future apps and/or data to the SD card> Will doing that affect performance?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Mona

Hi Mona, and welcome to Android Forums!

As a general rule, you can move SOME apps to the SD card and some you can't. For example: any app that has a widget on the homescreen must remain in internal storage. You can try an app like App MGR (App 2 SD), which will move the apps that can be moved, as well as "freeze" any unwanted bloatware so they won't use system resources.

Make sure the camera app is set to save images to the SD card too. I hope this helps!

It's great to have you here :)
