Help Help with MMS Pic Messaging

Hello, I just picked up a brandnew Motorola X 3 gen on the day of the release. I will say I love this phone, very nice styling, feels great in the hand, camera is amazing and overall a good phone for $200! Now I'm using this phone as a work phone so very small usage only going to be calling, texting and pic messages for estimates. I got no data with the phone cause I don't need it, but found out androids need data to send picture messages. Now virgin says when you sent one on data it's free cause it's part of my package, but the problem is my phone is using data without even opening any apps or anything that uses data!! How can I set up this phone so it doesn't use data at all but just picture messages, from what I read it has to do with setting up a new APN?

Motorola X 3 Gen on Virgin Moblie Canada

Thanks! Please help!

The phone is probably using some data for syncing contacts, calendars or something.. Go into:
Settings> WiFi & mobile networks > Data usage
...and it will tell you where the data is going.

Yes, MMS messages use data, either by mobile data connection or WiFi. You can't setup an APN just for picture messages only. They're just data, like any other data.

I'm confused, What do you mean by "virgin says when you sent one on data it's free cause it's part of my package"?

I think he means that his carrier told him that data is data, and even though he needs to have data included in his plan that mms won't cost him extra.

Thanks for the replies!

What I mean is I get free pic messaging in my plan. Yes the picture messaging uses data, but on my plan I have flex data ( which is data I usage I have to pay for) and unchargeable data ( data from pic messaging and such I don't pay for )

I was told I could set up an APN where it just uses data for mms and no data for anything else, it just cuts the connection not allowing it to use data but for mms.

Just a big jump as I come from IPhones and unless you use an app like Facebook, Safari or something you don't use data.

Thanks guys!
